I can't see what DirectFB or replacing X buys us > now, or in the long run. Like he says, and just to point out that DirectFB doesn't have anywhere near as much hardware/features support as X. And much of the Gnome programs use X. For example the gnome-settings-daemon, so it's a no no. Cheers PS: If we were building a set-top box, in which we could put any video card of our choice, DirectFB would probably have made sense.
