Where Do We Go...From Here?

I was just wondering, is there any specific goal that the current (and  
en route) projects are working towards, i.e. loss-free data  
translation, file format integration, embeddability, cross-platform  
functionality or ...?  Has the pseudo-bureaucracy decided anything,  
yet?
