[GNOME-my][Fwd: Re: GNOME malaysia web hosted]

Hi colin,

I just get in touch with Imran from http://community.asiaosc.org, he is
kindly agree to allow us to host up a site `GNOME Malaysia` under
http://community.asiaosc.org/~gnome-my.

He have brought up a few issue that need to be concern and address
before starting the work... i hope to bring up some discussion on the
list about it..

Would you like to take on the challenge? of course i will willingness to
do my best to help you out for everything (time, resource, money)... i
simply love GNOME very much.... ;)

I won't rush for it.. but hope to plan careful about it and have
discussion about what it will look like under this mailing list for the
planned website.

I will also take sometimes (in a week) to go through the copyright issue
of GNOME logo and name. and clarity and resolve any issue with GNOME
executive director, Tim Ney (director gnome org)

OK then, no problems.
Just nominate the person who will have permission to upload and hold
the password. Get them to send in (fax or by email) some photo-ID,
using the normal procedure.

Pazli,
Can you change the wording on terms and conditions / procedure to
say 'some kind of photo ID (for example, Malaysian IC)' rather than
just 'IC' - to make it clear what we really want, especially for foreigners?
Because colin charles said he thinks it will be a problem for many people,
who do not have IC or passport (e.g. many people in India).

I think it should be fine.... but a few questions regarding our existing terms
andconditions:

1) it's not-for-profit, correct?

Yup, it is for non-profit, even we said market GNOME, but in fact, we
just try to bring GNOME desktop awareness to general public... we still Affiliate with GNOME project.

2) will there be just 1 person authorized to login and upload? otherwise,
becomes some risk that we can't be sure who is doing what ... we need
to protect MIMOS in case of any bad content on community server, so basically we need somebody to blame :)

Mmm, I am far from being a good web designer.. so I look up a person to
help me to setup such a planning site, colin (byte aeon com my). I will
have a discussion with colin about this issue.

If you insist on one person to login and upload the site, then I will be
happy to let Colin in charge of it if he is willingness to commit to it.

3) currently it's only sftp. for a big site, rsync is quite useful - unless somebody can write a script that does a recursive sftp? or I know that scp has a --recursive
option, but currently we did not enable sftp either... What do you think?

I will consult colin about this issue, i am not familiar with it, but I
see that it won't be a big site for near future, since we are in our
very beginning stage, and we are willingness to transfer file by file if
we can not find an automatic way to do so.

4) when do you want to launch this? because Pazli did not yet finish
confirming with legal department that the terms and conditions are OK, without this we cannot formally launch community server (that's why it's in 'beta testing'
phase).

We won't officially launch the site, and I believe we won't do that in
this 2 months, since we all volunteer doing it. what we would like to
know is that possible to have such site host up and look for right
people to do it.

But assuming all these issues can be solved ... this is exactly the kind of thing
we wanted at the site :) to encourage and help community activist people to
create web content and to create a better linked community of people in
Malaysia working on open source in their free time.

That is what we actually like to do so.

Thanks,

Imran

Hi

we (gnome-my-list gnome org) are planning to host up a website `GNOME
malaysia`, which we can use to post news, organize events.. and have a
lot of funs about GNOME that more relevant to what happened in Malaysia.

we would like to host the site under community.asiaosc.org, like
http://community.asiaosc.org/~gnome-my.

As i know that now the web account is open to individual public, so is
that possible for us to apply such account and host up `GNOME malaysia`
stuffs there?

I know it might need a person who is fully responsible for the site
content, I will take on the responsibility of it.

regards,
HOH
