Yes, this is true -- and has been like this for quite a long time at
least.

FWIW, this are not circular dependencies. Some platform packages depend
on desktop ones, so you just need to build them as deps. *sigh*


Unless you really want to build *manually* from source, I'd recommend
using a build tool that automatically resolves those dependencies for
you and even cares about downloading the packages -- like GARNOME. :-)

Hint: Since you already downloaded the tarballs (the smaller bz2 ones I
hope), set GARCHIVEDIR in gar.conf.mk.
