Query about creating link on desktop

Hi,
I'm using GNOME 2.10 on Debian GNU/Linux 3.1.When I create link on my
desktop to a directory and right click on icon I don't get "Browse
Folder" option for the first time.Now when I just "Open" it for the
first time and again right click on the icon I can find "Browse
Folder" option.What explains this behaviour?
