Scrambled notification area

It seems as though every time I look at my notification area the icons
are in a different order.  I have

    Power Managemer
    NetworkManager Applet
    Battery Charge Monitor
    Clock
    Volume Applet
    Network Monitor
    Log Out Button

Yes, I know there's some redundant functionality there.

This is just a minor, trivial annoyance, but it's disconcerting.
