Can't make Gnome work on Solaris 9

Hello, I'm new in the Unix world and I'm trying to learn something about
Solaris. After Solaris 9 installation, I realized I had only the CDE session
available on console. So I got the packages for Gnome and had them installed
in the machine, but I can't make it work neither in the console nor on remote
telnet session. I went through the guide entitled "Integrating DTlogin with
GNOME" found in the site
http://www.clanger9.org.uk/computer/gnome/dtlogin.html
But still I keep receiving the error:
" ld.so.1: gnome-session: fatal: libfreetype.so.6: open failed: No such
file or directory", when I'm in a remote session.
When I'm on system console, nothing happens, and I also get errors which
can be seen through the log file in /.dt/sessionlogs
"GNOME 2.0 Desktop using xinitrc file: /usr/dt/config/Xinitrc.Sun-gnome-2.0-fcs-10
Starting GNOME 2.0
ld.so.1: /usr/bin/gnome-volcheck: fatal: libfreetype.so.6: open failed:
No such file or directory
ld.so.1: /usr/bin/gnome-session: fatal: libfreetype.so.6: open failed: No
such file or directory
/usr/dt/config/Xsession2.Sun-gnome-2.0-fcs-10[42]: 848 Killed".
I don't know what is happening, because I made sure that variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH
had the path /usr/local/lib, where strangely
exists the file libfreetype.so.6, but still it keeps saying it cannot be
found. I hope that any of you who passed through a similar situation could
help me understand what is wrong and what needs to be done.
Thanks, Soraia.
