Resizing Gnome 2.4 Desktop Bottom Panel

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way, or if it is even possible, to
resize the Gnome 2.4 desktop bottom edge panel horizontal length like
what can be done in KDE using the panel's property editor.  I know you
can control pixel size, but what I'm after is setting end-to-end length
of the panel at the bottom of the screen.
