Sub-pixel rendering -- want it gone.

Howdy, all.  I just upgraded to 2.2, and I've (apparently) got sub-pixel
font rendering going on.  To say that I don't like it would be a massive
understatement.  How do I get rid of it?  It's showing up in my Mozilla,
my gnome-terminal, etc.  (Note that this was a Debian upgraded to Gnome
2.2, so I suppose it might be my font manager that's forcing me into it,
instead of Gnome.)

Suggestions?
