If you delete a file using the delete key then it is tranferred to the
Trash folder.  Since you can easily retrieve it from there I guess
there's no prompt.

If on theother hand you have used the "delete" option on the contect
menu you should be getting a prompt that says its permanent.

Have a look in your trash...
