Nevertheless, how they exert their control is always influenced by the
package maintainers.
Now, all I really know is Gentoo. I'll simply assume that other distros
get a similar impression of the requirements and contents of Gnome.

Is it me, or is this list starting to get big? That looks almost
unmanageable - but if it were broken down into separate meta packages...
Actually, it already is - gnome-desktop, gnome-games - and I'm just
suggesting that this could be taken further in order to simplify things
from an outside perspective as well as an internal one.
