gnome2 installation problem

I'm new to this list and this might not be the right place, in that case tell me.
I am trying to compile gnome2-rc2, following the package order from http://www.karubik.de/gig/2.0/index.html. The Gconf package will not compile, ends with:

I am running redhat 7.3 with the following packages installed from rawhide rpms:
autoconf-2.53-5.noarch.rpm
automake-1.6.1-2.noarch.rpm
gettext-0.11.2-2.i386.rpm

These should be required for gnome2 as far as i can understand.
