Root username

Hi,
  This isn't technically gnome-specific, but  bear with me...

I just purchased RedHat 8 and installed successfully. However, at no
time did the install prompt me for a root username- only a root
password. So, I created a password. I was given the option of creating
user accounts with usernames and passwords, but declined to do so. After
the install I rebooted and was prompted for a username and password.
Since I didn't create a username, nothing seemed to work. I tried admin,
administrator, my password, nothing, and fu. Nothing seems to work. Is
there anything I can do besides reinstalling completely? Tx, Heinz.

when replying to a case, please either:
  -email support atg com and preface the subject with "case #XXXXX".
  -phone (800) RING ATG and reference your case #.
