Gnome canvas item

Hallo!

By means of the
gnome_canvas_get_item_at  

function it's possible to look for the item that is under a position 
specified in world coordinates: how is it possible to retrieve all the 
characteristics of that item (e.g. if it is an ellipse,a polygon,... the 
item coordinates, ...)
