Ah, I see.  Hmm, I don't think Solaris uses /etc/pam.d then.  (I've only
briefly used Solaris in my life.)  In /etc/pam.conf, add an entry for
xscreensaver (copy the other or login entries), and try it then.

Also, make sure you file (or that there is already) a bug report filed
on the Ximian packages, because they shouldn't be relying on a Linux PAM
feature on Solaris (assuming /etc/pam.d is Linux only - I know Linux PAM
has a *lot* of extensions and add-ons that standard PAM doesn't)
