Gnome hangs on irix 6.2

I posted a message about this about a month ago but got no reply so i
thought i would give it another try. I have installed gnome 1.2 on an sgi
indy running irix 6.2. I have used binaries downloaded from the sgi
freeware page but i have also compiled my "own" version of both
gnome 1.2 and gnome 1.4 but still experience the same problems. I must
add that  i am surprised that gnome compilation worked so well, i
had no problems compiling at all, ususally compiling in irix gives me
loads of trouble.

Most parts of gnome seems to work okay, i have no problems running
"gtk based" apps, gimp, gmc-standalone etc but when i try to
run the "desktop" environment gnome hangs. I canīt tell you if
this has anything to do with gnome or if it is the os thats causing the
trouble but my money is on the os. Basically the problems are related to
the control-center and gnome-core packages. If i try to run the
gnome-help-browser the window opens up but hangs if i am logged in as
root, if i am not it seems to work but it shuts down almost immediatly.
In the shell window i get the message "Abort", nothing else.
Other apps like the gnome-controlcenter and panel never start. 

If anyone has any ideas, or have had any similar experiences please let
me know, because i have run out of ideas. I traced the systemcalls of the
panel and small part of them are included at the end of this
email.
