The point is that if you have a really critical (server) machine
running, you shouldn't be using GNOME, even X. If you're using your
computer as a desktop/game system, then you can also use the testing (==
woody) distribution (it doesn't crash on other people, so it won't crash
on you, and it's relatively up to date).

The gnome-core in debian woody is 1.4.0.4. (Maybe you should add woody
to /etc/apt/sources.list?)
