Maybe I have a similar (same?) question:
I wonder why I can shutdown/reboot from GDM, as this is permitted only to
root in Gnome and in the console mode.
Is this an "error" of GDM? And why then can't I shutdown/reboot without root
permission in Gnome and in console mode?
Being able to shutdown/reboot from inside gnome (without using su) could
making the procedure faster for a not-root user, so why not allow that?
