Stumped

I'm running the enlightenment desktop under Debian/GNU linux 2.2. I've
tried to get gnome running,but to my dismay I've had several problems.
I've uninstalled gnome and want to start from "scratch". If anybody out
there has any suggestions about how to go about this process using
`apt-get install' or `dselect' I would be very grateful.
