Dynamic panel icons

Hi,

Is it possible to "update" the image on one of the Gnome Panel icons? For example, in a script, depending on the state of a particular file, an icons image could change to signal an update in the file. Is this possible?

Also, I haven't had a reply to "A couple of panel questions"..... :o)
