On my box (gnome-core Ximian 1.4), Foot -> Desktop -> Log out pops up
a dialog that allows one to choose among logging out, shutting down
the computer or restarting it.

Alternatively, right-clicking on the panel pops up a panel menu with
"Log out" as an option, popping up the same dialog.

I do not have a "log out" option directly visible when I click on the
foot menu.
