How do one copy panels and where are they stored?

I have been wondering how I can keep my customized panels when I do a fresh 
install of Linux. I want to keep my 'menu'-panel without keeping the rest of 
my customized settings (copy only a panel).

Where is the panel-settings stored? Is it possible, and what do I risk if I 
copy it to another distro/user?
