gnome-terminal only with root?

we can only start gnome-terminal with user root. with another users we got always this error message :
Error: unable to fork: Interrupted system call
Gdk-ERROR **: X connection to igl001:0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
when switch to user root we can start it.
any ideas ?
we use the last ximian-gnome 1.4.
