I lost my desktop toolbars

I'm not sure if this is the proper mailing list, if not please direct me
in the right direction.

I've seem to have lost my desktop's toolbars (top & bottom). Everything
else on the desktop is fine. A month ago, I lost my desktop icons, but I
got them back after entering 'nautilus' in a terminal. That doesn't work
in this case.

Any ideas?
