Powering off with RH7.0

Has anyone fixed the power off problem when logging out of gnome
(choosing halt)?
I've done the fix listed in the newsgroups about changing
/etc/init.d/halt from halt to poweroff, but that only seems to work if I
type halt, not logging out of gnome.....
