Cannot compile glib, aria

Hi,

I am using Mandrake 8.0 and I have libglib1.2-1.2.10-1mdk installed. I
am trying to compile the latest version of Aria, but it says it needs
glib 1.2.6 or higher. I thought libglib1.2-1.2.10 mean glib 1.2.10.

Anyway, I downloaded glib 1.2.10 from ftp.gtk.org and tried to compile
it. After running the configure script, I run make. It produced the
following error:

(cd .libs && rm -f libglib-1.2.so.0 && ln libglib-1.2.so.0.0.10
libglib-1.2.so.0)
ln: cannot create hard link `libglib-1.2.so.0' to
`libglib-1.2.so.0.0.10': Operation not permitted

I tried to run the configure script of Aria with the option
--disable-glibtest --disable gtktest but it is still looking for glib.

Can anyone please help?
