webcontrol_applet stopped loading

I've got used to having the webcontrol_applet on my pannel and it no longer
automatically launches at startup.

I've tried to start it from the command line but this fails with what looks
like a corba call (I think).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
~$ webcontrol_applet
/dev/dsp: No such device
type = 0 exid = (null)

** CRITICAL **: file applet-widget.c: line 668
(gnome_panel_applet_corba_init): assertion `panel_client != ((void *)0)'
failed.

** CRITICAL **: file applet-widget.c: line 708 (applet_widget_new):
assertion `corbadat!=NULL' failed.

** ERROR **: Can't create applet!

aborting...
Aborted
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried to find the file applet-widget.c but couldn't. I also noticed that I
have a directory /etc/CORBA/servers which contains only one file
ppp-applet.goad, should there be a file for the webcontrol applet?

I have a similar machine running gnome & the webcontrol_applet and starting
it from the command line works ok, also find / -name "applet-widget.c" does
to find the file on that machine either. It also does not have a CORBA
directory...strange.

I've tried uninstalling gnome-session, gnome-panel, gnome-utils and
re-installing them (I'm not quite sure what package the webcontrol_applet is
part of).

Can anyone shed some light as to how to get the webcontrol_applet back on my
panel?

Thanks in advance.
