gnome-core compilation problems

Hi again folks, 

I've trying to compile gnome-core-1.2.4 now and I'm getting an error in ./configure

the error is first occurs at the start and says 'capplet - uknown library'

and then again later the script bombs completely saying 'capplet - library not found'

So what have I not installed yet?

Any help much appreciated
