Independant (or free) updater ?

Hi, 

The 'helix code updater' is a nice sofware. 
But, where are non-'helix code' softwares ?
In fact, for this mail I use Balsa (and I like it).

Is this problem can be solve with 'helix code updater' (future version) ?
Is it planned ? If not, why ?

How many persons are interresting (balsa, spruce, gnutella frontend, ... ) ?
