ORBit and perform_work/work_pending?

Is it true that ORBit's c bindings don't support
work_pending()/perform_work()?  If so, what do other GNOME developers
do to work around this problem when you want to implement a CORBA
interface for your app, but you don't want to turn over control of the 
app to ORB->run()?
