As I understand it, it is unlikely that there will be a 7.x release.
The next release will more than likely be based upon gcc 3.0. It might
also have Kernel 2.4, but that is a tougher call. Just the same, the new
compiler will almost certainly force them to bump the major version number
(for which I'm sure alot of people will give them unnecessary flack), due
to the fact that binaries will be incompatible.

There's _alot_ of stuff in 7.0 that you don't have on your 6.x system...
but, of course, it is your call...
