gnumeric-0.53-0.54-diff.gz

I have been unable to patch gnumeric-0.53 to 0.54, apparently because a
number of files in the gnumeric-0.53 directory have dates/times different
from those assumed by the patch file.

I patch the files with (from a script):

gunzip -c gnumeric-0.53-0.54.diff.gz | patch -p1

Is the patch file broken, or my gnumeric-0.53?

PS I suppose the advice is to download the full tarball? :-(
