problem for compiling module retrieved by CVS

Hello,

I retrieved several modules by CVS like oaf, gconf, ...
Normally, I must type ./autogen.sh (isn't it ?), but for each module, I can
read a message like :
./configure: syntax error near unexpected token `AM_CONFIG_HEADER(config.h)'
./configure: ./configure: line 531: `AM_CONFIG_HEADER(config.h)'
or :
./configure: syntax error near unexpected token `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(oaf,'
./configure: ./configure: line 531: `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(oaf, $OAF_VERSION)'

Can you help me ? my distribution is a final RedHat 6.2
