If TCP/IP can be turned on, and hence CORBA Objects can be shared
acrossed the network, the ORBit will be CORBA compliant (assuming all
else is equal).
Gnome is using CORBA because it makes sense as a replacement for
COM. In that desktop environment, there is no reason to use TCP/IP
instead of Unix sockets.
For people using ORBit in a non-Gnome or networked environment,
they should simple have to change a single line in a config file
somewhere. Or, perhaps ORBit should default to TCP/IP, but installing
Gnome changes that configuration to be Unix socket.
