Is there a modem status applet/icon for GNOME?

Hi,

I was wondering - is there a way of getting GNOME or Enlightenment
to give visual feedback when the modem connection is active?
I used to use ifconfig -a | grep ppp0, but that seems to be broken
nowadays (ppp0 remains in the listings even after the connection
drops).
An icon of a modem with blinking lights would be cool!
