Trying to install GNOME

Hi, I'm a newbie desperately trying to forget about Micro$oft Windoze. When
I try to install the GNOME rpm packages, most of them require libc.so.6. I
have a libc.so.6 in /usr/lib and in /lib. What do I need to do to get
libc.so.6 "installed?"

I can provide some RPM listings if that will help.
