no 'root' authentication?

Hello all,

when I start gmc as 'root', I get the following message:

-----------------
GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason :
None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based
authentication failed.
------------------

gmc continues to load, but I don't have 'root' priviliges...

wild idea: could this perhaps have something to do with not compiling certain
internet protocols into the kernel?

thanks in advance, Danny.
