Compiling gnome-core-1.0.55

 Since nobody responded, I'll have another try:
 I'm having trouble compiling gnome-core-1.0.55. I think I've got 
all the libraries installed correctly, and configure went fine, 
but when I run make, I get the following errors:

 First a part where everything goes just fine,which I'll spare you, 
and then
make[3]: Entering directory

 Permission denied? What's that all about? Anyone has an idea about
what went wrong? Before I forget, my system is a pentium-90 running
SuSE 6.2
