gnome-print question

Not sure who/where to ask a gnome-print question, so I'll try here
first. I'm trying to set up a printer in gnumeric, and would like
to do it properly, but...

gnome-print seems to have code in it to read printer configuration
information from a 'profile' file, but on my machines, the configured
directory compes up defined in the make

	-DPROFILEDIR=\"""\"

although it installs 'Postscript.profile' in
/usr/local/shared/gnome-print/profiles

Am I missing an important step somewhere, or are the configure files
broken?
