Re: Sound works in ESD, not in GNOME



I don't know if this helps, but I experienced a similar behavior.  I
could play sounds using esdplay, but pressing play in the control
center did nothing and I got no sound from the desktop.

I noticed that when I played sounds using esdplay, that I got some
message about a .esd_auth (or something similar) that already exists. 
I fixed this problem and now the desktop and control center sounds play
fine.  I know you may not be seeing the same error, but it seems to be
indicative that esdplay can play sounds even after encountering an
error while the calls made by the desktop cannot.  Are you getting any
spurious messages from esdplay?
