First off, Galeon does not work with Mozilla 0.6... you need to use
Mozilla M18.
That could be a big part of the problem.  See Galeon's website.

Second, both galeon and mozilla are still under heavy development
and have not released good stable versions.  The problem your having
sounds like a big memory leak.  One good thing about Linux being open
source... you can report the memory leak problem with galeon/mozilla
developers and it should be fixed soon.  I recommend using Netscape 4.76

for now.

Remember, Mozilla's Gecko html rendering engine is much more advanced
than
Internet Explorer and, thus, will be slower, more of a memory hog due to
more
features and code.  Remember how slow and sluggish Win95 was when it
first came out... the bigger the code, the more cpu/memory you need.

Personally, I'm very disappointed that Netscape released version 6 of
their
browser as a stable release so soon.  It still has a lot of bugs and I
don't
feel it was ready.  I can't even use Netscape 6 at work due to proxy
problems.
For now... Netscape 4.76 is the best choice with your hardware.
