ok do you know how to do it WITHOUT renaming the orginal names

convert -size 640x480 bigphotos/*.jpg smallphotos/*.jpg

names them like *.1.jpg, *.2.jpg, *.3.jpg
it's real close though to what I need to do..only if it wouldn't munch
the original filenames.
