Hello,

Well...I switched to sawfish as window manager but I do not
see "Customize" in the context menu of the desktop.

Odd! 

I see: New, Arrange Icons, Tidy Icons, Create new window, 
Rescan Desktop directory, Rescan devices, Recreate default icons,
Configure background image, desktop properties.

I look at the last listed but it did not have the "number
of virtual desktops" settings that started my search.

Another way to access Sawfish config is to right-click on your desktop,
click 'Customize', and 'All Settings'. That will start Sawfish's own
little configger with all the options to setup the WM.
