Hey,
Thank for the info. A real rtm question, as it turns
out.
But when I try selecting the "Workspaces" submenu of
the new sawfish section of the Control Center the main
area (the large right-middle frame) where the options
should be presented is *blank*.
Now the CC is not locked...or at least it repaints when it
is uncovered...but none of the sawfish option panes is
available.
This might have something to do with my having to take over
for the Helix update program (which kept seg faulting),
but sawfish seems to work otherwise. Is there a specific
RPM that I need to install to add just this control?

Click on the : Gnome button->Settings->Sawfish window manager->Workspaces
There, you will be able to configure the number and dimensions of your
workspaces.
