Thanks, I may have gotten past the problem. It wasn't the order, it was
the location. My original RH 6.0 install put all the libraries in
/usr/lib, the tarballs are putting them all in /usr/local/lib, so I am
ending up with stale copies laying around.
Yep, the make just finished and this time no errors.
