Why don't you try to integrate/link the Calendar
program with Gnucash (http://www.gnucash.org), a
gtk-based personal financing program? And you could
use bonobo?

I think this is smarter than adding acounting
abilities to calendar.
If it is out there and it's in GPL, use it or re-use
pieces of it.
