BALSA and remote SMTP-Server

Hi folks,
although my favorite eMail-software is PINE, I'd like to set up BALSA
under GNOME in order for other people to use it. So yesterday I went to
ftp.balsa.net and downloaded a copy.

I did, however, notice the following thing when I tested BALSA: When it's
first started, the user is prompted to enter some information concerning
his eMail-account. One thing that can be entered is a remote
SMTP-server. I entered the name of my mail-server into that field.

After starting BALSA I had a look at the Settings. Concerning the outgoing
mail, there are two possible setting: Either using the local Mail Transfer
Agent or using a remote SMTP server. As I've said above, I want to use my
dedicated mailserver. The problem is, that in the BALSA settings I can
only select "USE LOCAL MTA" and not the "USE REMOTE SMTP SERVER" option.

Why is this so? I know that I could configure SENDMAIL on every machine to
contact my mail-server which will then transfer the message to the
recipient. Then I could select "Use local MTA" in BALSA's settings and it
would work. But since there's the option "Use remote SMTP-server" within
BALSA, I would like to use it.

Besides not being able to switch to this specific option, BALSA works well
on my system.

Has anybody had a similar problem? Possibly this mailing-list is not quite
the right place to ask this question, but I can imagine that at least some
people here are as well using BALSA and do maybe have an answer.

Greetings,
Nils
