You mean MS Word format?  (Which version?  You got the specs?)
We hate you for even mentioning it.
Ascii is the American Standard Code for Information Interchange.
True patriots will accept no other.

But seriously, you should always start with Ascii (or ISO-9660)
in E-mail and newsgroups, and switch to something else only if
there is a reason to do it (like you need to send a picture) 
and a reason to think that your readers will want to see it.

Some people are gentle with "newbies", but persistant cluelessness
will land you in the killfile pretty quick.
