Hi!
I've now gotten my whole GNOME including the control-center to work.
Actually, I think that what I did to accomplish this was a rather dirty
and bad solution, and I'm pretty sure that there's something else that I
could do the get the same effect. If anybody's got an idea, please tell
me...
Here's what I've done:
1. I installed GNOME-CORE and the control-center at the location where
SuSE puts 'em (using ./configure --prefix=/opt/gnome/). When I started
GNOME, the panel did not work.
2. I crated another directory into which I unpacked the contents of
gnome-core-1.0.53.tar.gz. This time I did ./configure without any
additional arguments. I then did make and make install.
As you can see, I do now have GNOME-CORE installed twice on my system.
Once in /opt/gnome/ and once in the dafault directories. This works,
GNOME does now run the way I want it to. When I do, however, remove one
of the two copies of GNOME-CORE, I get several problems...
I would, however, be grateful if anybody can tell me the answers to the
following question:
I TOTALLY removed GNOME from my system and installed it all new. Since I
did a ./configure --prefix=/opt/gnome when I installed it, I don't know
why it still looks for some files in the default directories. This is
obvious, because when I remove the GNOME-CORE from /usr/share/... I get
several problems. Any ideas why this keeps happening?
Any ideas about this would be helpful. Well, at least I#m happy that
it's now working! Thanks to everyone who's helped me so far!
Nils
