GNOME DIR variable ?

Maybe the answer is in the doc but I didn't find the answer.
The problem is the localisation of gnome when it is different from
the --prefix compile option.
I compiled gnome (on a sun) with --prefix=/first_place
Now for reason that doesn't depend of me, I have to move from /first_place
to /other_place. I can't use a symlink.
Is there an environnement variable like
export GNOME=/other_place
?
